Hey! I heard you on NPR today and ordered your book. I applaud you! I have only recently become aware of sustainable living. I’m just a hairstylist in Dallas but now I am dreaming of my buying a YURT powered by solar and being off the grid, growing my own food, etc. I can’t wait to read your book as I swear I a considering doing this (if I had the $$$ )
Thanks for writing the book about your experiences.

Hi Doug,
Read your book; It’s very funny, and motivating. I am a long time gardener and earth preserver, but don’t have a veg. diesel car.

I left a comment on the Farewell My Subaru page.

Thanks for the book and website; great stuff!
Fran

Would love to be self-sustaining on our property northwest of Deming, NM. Your book will be my guiding light to that end. Can’t wait to read it.

Ordered the book too…

PS to Marie…self-sustaining can begin with something as basic as a patio tomato plant…It GROWS on you!

Sir,
I happened to see you on Jay Leno. Your interview was a very bright spot in somewhat of an ugly day here in Iraq. I have read, “Farewell My Subaru” and am looking forward to reading your book about Alaska. Somehow it is surreal reading about local living and reducing the carbon footprint while functioning in a system where most everything is brought in from outside the country or sent in from the States. Military vehicles are not known for their fuel efficiency.
I am planning on coverting to solar and wind power when I get home and after seeing the gasoline prices, definately need to change vehicles.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Jane

Jane-
Thanks so much for your post. I’m glad to hear both that “Farewell, My Subaru” was a bright spot for you, and that you’re on the road to sustainability when you get back. I wish there was something I could do about the ugliness you’re facing, but you’re in my thoughts, and I’m sending you all the best.
